Summer’s not over yet, and if you’re one of the lucky ones with a vacation coming up, you might be stressing about missing your workouts or finding enough room in your luggage to pack your bands, dumbbells, and Tony Little with you.
Well stress no more!
Do you need to work out on vacation?
No! But you can if you want.
Here are a couple things to consider to help you decide what’s right for you:
1. Why are you taking this vacation in the first place?
If you’re feeling pretty burnt out from your busy life, chances are you’ve booked this vacation so you can relax, unplug and just chill on vacation. So, that’s what you should do! If you’re running on fumes, a full workout probably isn’t going to get you any further along in your goals than a solid 1-2 weeks of rest will. Let yourself relax!
If you’re a vacation adventurer, then workouts could really get in the way of your experience. So why not use your exciting new destination to help you stay active in fun, new ways? Go see what the locals are doing, take a walking or bike tour, explore local natural attractions or try something new that you can’t do at home. Get creative, and remember that fitness can go everywhere!
2. What are your fitness goals?
Most of our clients want balance with their fitness routines, but they sometimes struggle with consistency, especially after taking a break, like after a vacation.
If this is the case, here are some tips to help you easily incorporate exercise into a relaxing vacation:
Give yourself a new exercise goal each day. Day 1 might be 100 squats. Day 2 might be Pushups or Planks. So throughout the day, you can find little moments to bust out 20 squats here and there. That way you’ll still maintain an exercise routine, while still having a ton of flexibility to enjoy your vacay. And it might even help with any airplane or road trip stiffness.
Explore on your feet! Make a point to get out for a walk each day. That’s the fun of being somewhere else – there’s so much to explore, so getting out for a walk feels less like a chore and more like an adventure.
Fitness doesn’t have to be complicated and it definitely doesn’t need to stress you out on your well-deserved vacation!
